PROJECT OVERVIEW

Brand Author requested GlassBeard Media to redesign their brand image. As a solo-entrepreneur Zahra Cruzan has been doing extraordinary work in brand strategy, but has been focused solely as a one on one consultant. Her goal was to become a group coach in the online world. In order to do this she needed to be seen as a strong visual identity without anyone ever meeting with her face to face.

IDENTITY

Brand Author had an amazing reputation in the consulting world and for most of her business Zahra did everything with face to face meetings or by referral basis. Branching into a new market digitally she would need to be seen clearly and confidently before anyone would be able to see her process or content. Her initial image was split between being too loud with her color palette and at the same time too intense with her logo design of a branding iron.

We approached this new design with a sense of excitement to learn about Zahra and her past clients to find out more of her story and approach to her own branding system. As we developed an idea of her approach to brand identity we learned she has a very organized and time managed style, but she loves to tow the line between being fun and keeping everyone on task. Once we took the time to understand her business more closely we wanted to create a brand that towed the line between fun and strict business.

DESIGN

We tried a lot of custom typography to create this co-existence of fun and business. The main idea we had was to have the logo contain more content than we usually would have with a wordmark, but this set-up being able to showcase the structure while still being able to play with the whimsical elements of the font itself. We made the choice of creating a structured rectangle to encompass the logo and than be able to have our fun inside the box. Having the letters play within the negative space of each other referenced the idea that brand is a collaborative process and even though you have to be structured and business-like the space inside can be extremely creative.
